A Day in the Life of the IVF Lab: Our Incubators

Welcome to The Fertility Institute’s IVF lab. My name is Beanie and I’m one of the embryologists who has the privilege to be part of your fertility journey.

Our incubators

So today, we’re in the lab and I want to tell you a little bit more about our incubation system that we use here at The Fertility Institute. So, when we’re doing IVF (in vitro fertilization) two of the components of having good embryo quality are going to be your culture system and your media and then also the incubators that you use to culture the embryos in.

And what sets these incubators apart from the older model incubators is the fact that we can culture patients’ embryos individually in each chamber, and as we’re working on one, we’re not affecting the others.

So, if you look inside, this is where the actual dish is going to go with the actual embryos. And while we’re working with this patient here, the rest of them are not affected. The gases and the temperature do not get influenced by the fact that I opened the chamber for another patient.

That’s it for today. Keep an eye out for future sneak peeks of what goes on behind the lab door.
