Fertility Preservation

Fertility Preservation near Me

Your reproductive future should be up to you. If you’re interested in growing your family later in life, consider fertility preservation. The Fertility Institute offers fertility preservation for patients across our three New Orleans area locations, including Metairie, Baton Rouge, and Mandeville. When you’re ready, we’ll be here to help you build your family.

What is Fertility Preservation?

Fertility preservation is the general term for the collection of treatments that preserve your fertility so you can have biological children in the future. This typically involves the collection and freezing of eggs, sperm, or embryos, which can be thawed and used later when you’re ready to grow your family.

For women, fertility declines with age. Most women reach peak fertility in their 20s, with fertility slowly declining in their early 30s and rapidly declining after the age of 35. By collecting mature eggs from you in your 20s or early 30s, you can protect your reproductive potential at its peak while waiting until the time is right to grow your family.

Our state-of-the-art laboratory uses cryopreservation to freeze eggs, sperm, and embryos. Your frozen eggs, sperm, and embryos are kept safe and monitored in cryopreservation tanks until you are ready to use them.

When you’re ready to grow your family, the eggs, sperm, or embryos are thawed, and our fertility specialists will use personalized fertility treatments to help you grow your family.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Fertility Preservation?

There are many reasons people choose to grow their families later in life, including if:

  • You are concerned that aging or other factors may affect your ability to have children in the future.
  • You are starting treatment for cancer or other diseases that could affect fertility, including autoimmune conditions.
  • You have already undergone in vitro fertilization (IVF) and wish to freeze extra viable embryos (or eggs) to grow your family again in the future.
  • You wish to have a child in the future but don’t wish to right now.
  • You are an LGBTQ+ individual or couple requiring frozen eggs or embryos for family building, including those receiving gender-affirming care.

Our fertility specialists can discuss your future reproductive plans with you and help you determine if you may be a good fit for fertility preservation.

Oncofertility

Some people who are diagnosed with cancer choose to preserve their fertility before beginning treatments like radiation and chemotherapy. Oncofertility is the assisted reproductive technologies used to preserve fertility for those with cancer. We collaborate with your oncologist, expedite the preservation process, and provide priority appointments to ensure you can preserve your fertility without delaying the essential cancer care you need.

The Fertility Institute is a proud partner with LiveStrong Fertility, which offers access to free medications and discounted fertility preservation services. Our fertility specialists can help you access these resources.

Additionally, new legislation in Louisiana has expanded access to oncofertility services for residents facing cancer diagnoses. Effective as of January 1, 2024, many commercial health plans must now cover fertility preservation procedures, counseling, and other essential oncofertility support. This is a significant advancement in fertility care across the state, and our team of specialists is committed to providing comprehensive and empathetic assistance throughout your journey.
