LGBTQ+ Services near Baton Rouge LA
There is more than one way to build a family. LGBTQ+ individuals across Baton Rouge, Louisiana, can grow their families with the help of The Fertility Institute of New Orleans. We offer a range of services for LGBTQ+ couples and individuals who hope to preserve their fertility, struggle with infertility, or require a sperm donor to help build the family of their dreams.
LGBTQ+ Family Building
Our fertility specialists are happy to work with LGBTQ+ individuals and couples who want to grow their families. There are many ways to build your family and allow everyone to participate in the process as much as state laws allow. Fertility assessments are a key part of the family-building process. It allows our team to create customized fertility treatments, which may include reproductive-assisted technologies (ART) like:
- In vitro fertilization (IVF)
- Reciprocal IVF
When considering IVF or reciprocal IVF, one partner can provide eggs while the other can carry the embryo created. The partner providing the eggs will undergo controlled ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval, while the other will undergo the implantation procedure. A sperm donor may be used for IVF or reciprocal IVF.
IUI is a less invasive fertility treatment option that allows the same partner who contributes eggs to carry the pregnancy. A highly concentrated sperm sample will be injected into the uterus using a catheter for a greater chance of successful fertilization.
Third-Party Donation
If you need a sperm donor, our fertility specialists can help you coordinate with third-party donors and tackle the big questions that come with using a sperm that your child may have in the future.
Louisiana has strict laws around egg donation and surrogacy for LGBTQ+ couples, which prevents our practice from offering these services. We support all members of the LGBTQ+ community in their dream of building their family, even if we can’t provide gestational surrogacy or egg donation at this time.
Fertility Preservation and Transitioning
Before medically transitioning, some transgender individuals explore the option of preserving their fertility. Cryopreservation, the freezing of mature eggs, sperm, or embryos, can make it possible to still have a child related to you biologically in the future, even if you undergo a sterilizing procedure.
Using ARTs, such as in vitro fertilization or intrauterine insemination, a fertility specialist can use thawed eggs or embryos to help you, or a partner, get pregnant when the time is right.
Our fertility specialists can advise you on the options available based on your medical history, fertility assessment, and reproductive desires. You may require a mix of additional fertility treatments and LGBTQ+ reproductive services to grow the family you want.
Support Through the Family-Building Process
Our fertility team will provide you and your partner with plenty of support throughout the fertility preservation and treatment process. We recommend genetic testing for all parties involved in growing your family, bloodwork, and STI testing.
To help you navigate Louisiana laws surrounding LGBTQ+ surrogacy, embryos, and adoption, we have experienced attorneys we can recommend.
