  • Overview (jump to section): Infertility treatments can help individuals or couples with infertility and LGBTQ+ families needing reproductive assistance who may otherwise be unable to conceive a baby.

  • Our team will discuss all considerations and answer all questions patients may have before recommending the best course for success.

Who needs infertility treatments & other reproductive services?

Fertility treatment is a medical intervention to help an individual or couple get pregnant or preserve the chance to conceive in the future.

Testing & infertility treatments

Millions of couples – about 10% to 15% of those wishing to conceive – will have difficulty doing so. The reproductive process is so intricate that even the most fertile couple has only a 1 in 5 chance of conceiving each month.

Infertility can have many causes, discovered through infertility testing. Once the cause of infertility is discovered, infertility treatments can often help couples conceive.

Other reproductive services

For those facing the risk of losing their ability to have children, whether due to advancing age or medical issues such as undergoing fertility-damaging cancer treatments, fertility treatment can help plan for future pregnancy through egg, sperm or embryo cryopreservation (freezing and storing).

Reproductive treatments can also help individuals or couples who do not have infertility, but do need reproductive assistance to have a healthy child, such as single women wishing to become mothers, same-sex couples, or couples known to carry genetic diseases.

At The Fertility Institute of New Orleans, fertility treatment has helped many people achieve their family goals – with 19,000 pregnancies and counting.

When to see a fertility specialist

If it’s been a struggle to get pregnant, it may be time to get some expert help. Seek out a fertility specialist in the following situations:

  • Have had difficulty conceiving on your own for one year when the woman is younger than 35, or for six months when the woman is 35 or older.
  • Have experienced multiple pregnancy losses.
  • Are in an LGBTQ+ relationship and need fertility services to get pregnant.
  • Wish to preserve eggs or sperm to possibly have a family in the future.
  • Have a family history of genetic disorders, or if both partners are known carriers of genetic disorders requiring embryo testing.

Types of infertility treatments & services

Whatever the reasons for seeking treatment, assisted reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intrauterine insemination (IUI) can help women, men and same-sex couples maximize the chances of having a child of their own.

Prior to undergoing treatment, an individual or couple should get a full fertility evaluation to determine factors affecting their chance of conception. Depending upon the patient’s results, age, health, family goals, and personal and financial considerations, the team at The Fertility Institute can discuss, recommend and explain all options for the most effective treatments.

We offer second opinions on infertility diagnosis and fertility treatment recommendations. At The Fertility Institute, we take the toughest cases, even patients who weren’t successful or were turned down at other clinics.

Infertility Testing

Infertility Testing

Fertility testing of men & women determines the cause(s) of infertility, guiding diagnosis & treatment decisions.
IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)

IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)

IVF is the most reliable infertility treatment. We should know: The Fertility Institute of New Orleans was responsible for Louisiana’s first IVF baby, born in 1984!
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

IUI is an in-office procedure directly depositing healthy sperm into a woman’s uterus. This positions the sperm closer to the fallopian tubes where fertilization occurs, increasing the chances of pregnancy.
Fertility Preservation

Fertility Preservation

Want a family in the future, just not right now? Fertility preservation treatments protect the ability to have children in the future by freezing eggs, embryos or sperm.

LGBTQ+ family building & fertility

While most LGBTQ+ same-sex couples and individuals do not seek fertility treatments specifically for infertility, third-party reproduction treatments can be used to help them build a family.
