Dr. Joseph La Nasa earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame and his medical degree from Louisiana State University. His completed his urology residency at the Louisiana State University/Charity Hospital in New Orleans. Dr. La Nasa continued his studies in Andrology (male reproduction) at various medical centers throughout the United States. He was board certified in Urology by American Board of Urology in 1977.
From 1975 through 2005, Dr. La Nasa served as Clinical Professor of Urology at LSU where he chaired the Urology Department from 1979 to 1982. In 2005, following Hurricane Katrina, he relocated to Monroe, Louisiana where he was the Urologist and Andrologist for the Urology Clinic of Northeast Louisiana. In 2010, he joined Tulane Medical School as a Clinical Associate Professor of Urology and Andrology where he continues to teach residents and medical students.
Dr. La Nasa partnered with The Fertility Institute in 2010 and performs most Andrology surgical procedures at OMEGA HOSPITAL in Metairie, LA where they have the best microsurgical equipment in the Metropolitan area along with friendly staff. He specializes in male infertility, including therapy for andropause (testosterone deficiency), microsurgical sperm retrieval for patients with obstructive and non-obstructive azoospermia (absence of sperm in the semen). With extensive experience in Micro-surgical applications in Andrology, Dr. La Nasa has performed over 3000 microsurgical corrective procedures including vasectomy reversal and spermatic vein ligation for correction of Varicocele. His practice also includes medical therapy of hormonal problems affecting sexual function such as low libido, impotence and pre- mature ejaculation.
During his 47 years of medical practice, he has provided therapy to over 10,000 infertile couples. Highly respected by his colleagues for his expertise, Dr. La Nasa has published articles in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, the Journal of Andrology, the Journal of Urology, the Fertility and Sterility Journal, the Journal of the Urologic Clinics of North America, the Metabolism journal, the Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and the Journal of Clinical Investigation.
A charter member of the American Society of Andrology, Dr. La Nasa is also an active member of the American Urological Association, the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, Society for Male Reproduction and Urology, Louisiana State Urological Society, the Southern Medical Association, the International Society of Urology and the European Society of Human Reproduction.
